AMBP’s Activities

The Association of Manitoba Book Publishers represents a diverse group of Manitoba publishing houses. The AMBP strives to raise the profile of Manitoba publishers and create awaremess by drawing attention to one of the province’s most culturally dynamic industries. In doing so, the AMBP works with people central to the business of publishing: publishers, writers, editors, designers, booksellers, distributors, librarians, sales personnel and many others.

Some activities undertaken by the AMBP include:

  • providing current information, ideas and resources on publishing to our members and the general public
  • co-ordinating joint marketing projects such as Prairie Books NOW, a publication about Prairie writers, publishers and stories
  • co-producing Brave New Words: the Manitoba Writing and Publishing Awards gala, an event held every April recognizing contributions made by Manitoba’s literary community
  • promoting members’ titles by publishing and distributing excerpt books, running booths at trade shows and co-ordinating What’s New in Manitoba books, a monthly newsletter detailing the latest news in Manitoba publishing
  • representing our members’ interests and negotiating on their behalf with various government departments and agencies
